The Dungeon
Description
:The Slovak and English description share almost nothing in common. The intent was for guests to hire a guide. The English reads, “The Dungeon: It was erected under the reign of Sigismund Luxemburský (1430). There is not any document or tradition to prove that any body had been starved to death in this dungeon.” It’s really a very clever wording, and I am sure that it could have only been written by an Englishman.

The Matúš Tower Sign
Description
:All the signs in Trenčín Castle continued this trend of signs that had very short English portions that had very little to do with what was in the Slovak portion. This one says, “The Matúš Tower: was oritinall built in the Roman Style in the century 1 and had been rebuilt long before Matúš Čák Trenčíansky in the tower rises directly from the rock. It is 39m high.” This one is such poor English that it hardly seems like the same author as the one who wrote the sign for the dungeon.

The Barbara Palace
Description
:This was Queen Barbara’s private quarters. It even included a secret passage so that her many suitors could make a quick getaway. The English is rather mundane and sticks to the facts. It says, “The Barbara Palace: it was built in the year 1430 for the Queen Barbara Celska by her husband Sigismund Luxemburský (the Roman and Germain Emperor as well as the king of Bohemia and Hungary) 1387–1437.”
